Last semester, I signed up for MIS 412 hoping to learn asp.net. Unfortunately that professor taught the mis 440 curriculum. So now I have a grade in that class, and I don’t know ASP.net. If i want, i can retake the course and pay all that money again, but why would I do that. I really think mason should give me a refund.
So that is why I am learning all this information again. Although, it was much funner with jesse blockstede.
I really think we were robbed when it comes to the taxi magic contest. I think are video was the best of the class. Unfortunately we cannot compete with movies with a combined budget of over a billion dollars. That’s how much the video that won, cost to make. I really don’t know how they came up with all that money to afford all those stars….
Taxi magic can’t even use that video to promote their site, it uses copyrighted clips and music. Which is not covered in the academic fair use.
Seriously taxi magic….your going to get sued for hosting copyrighted material…..
I have been searching for a new job since the middle of last semester. I have interviewed with several big companys. And each one of them gave me the same feeling. You will be stuck indefinately near the bottom. I then got an interview with a small company. Not only do they make games, there is real oppurtunity to move up in the company. Because there are only several people directly above me in the company. As it expands, I could move up with it. Larger companys don’t expand at the rate of new smaller companies. Needless to say, I’m excited about the possibilitys.
Group on was last weeks e buisness. The idea for groupin.com is relitiely simple. They get companys to offer them some kind of deal if they guarantee so many sales. People commit to a purchase and if enough people commit. They are obliged to pay for it. The deals are usually service based. Resturaunts gyms etc.
I really like the idea. It’s basically buying cuopons. It’s great for buisnesses to advertise and consumers to buy.

First off, the article on google was long.
Google is a really interesting company. They basically went against all internet business conventions and thus have become the most powerful company in the world. The world is so dependent on the internet and they control 70% of what is seen. Its pretty incredible.
Google is looking into GPS technology now. Basically they are going to make GPS’s free. This would then kill the buisness for the current GPS makers. They make alot of their money selling updated maps. Google will do this for free.
The real question is about new industry risk. These companies invested alot of time and money into gps technology. Now google comes in and says “this shall be free.” Now those companies are done.
This sucks for them, but it really makes companies competitive and innovative.
So the lesson for your E business is, if you don’t move, Google will pull the rug out from under you.
Well I unfortunately have to miss class today, but there is a bright side to that.
I got a follow up interview and it seems pretty exciting. They are paying for me to stay in dc and do a tour/company visit. Its really exciting to have a company really want you to work for them. I really think that jesse had something to do with that, mainly because of the huge project last year on SDLC.

Logo My Way is a website that runs reverse auctions for Logo designs. Getting a good logo can be quite difficult. Most of your time developing a logo in a company will be wasted with irrelevant meetings trying to justify the symbolic meaning of the chosen color.
On logomyway.com you submit the name of your business and other basic information about the nature of your work. You set a prize amount and designers are notified.
The businesses can then see all the entry’s and select a winner. This is a really great idea because it gives you access to a huge pool of talent for minimal cost.
This business model allows design work to be distributed to the crowd, cutting cost and decreasing time.
Earth Class mail is a service that will scan you mail and email it to you.
The concept of this service is quite promising. All of your mail is organized and logged on the cloud. You never lose a bill or letter. This all sounds great but when you look at the reality, it’s slow and to expensive for the everyday person.
It takes an extra day for your mail to show up on their service. So the snail mail is now “snailer.” And when you get that test results email from your doctor you’ve been sweating over, don’t worry, its just another day for them to physically open it up and scan it. Also you get to pay another dollar for the privalage to see whats in your mail on top of the monthly fee.
What this tells me is that they are doing this by hand. They have a machine to scan all the packages and letters coming in. But if you want something opened, they have to do this individually.
Earth Class Mail’s only market is Businesses and I don’t think they want to wait an extra 48 hours for their mail, when they could scan it themselves for free.
